I think of my carving as poetry in stone. Stone is the essence of the earth and its tactility has provided me with a solid medium for sculptural metaphors pertaining to our relations with Nature and vice versa.

My work is abstract, organic and tactile with a sense of the primeval.

During the 1990s I created a substantial body of work at the historic Vermont Marble Company site in West Rutland, Vermont. As a result of being around the marble quarries, doing my work day in and out, I have come to appreciate those ancient ties to earlier times and its ancestral energy. My work has become an effort to convey through organic metaphors a sense that our time, though defined mostly by advances in technology, is just as well rooted in the world of Nature and as connected to those humans who lived before us, as those who will inhabit the world after us.
